HSA is gone but Hotkeys aren't working

OK, first things first, hopefully the other threads I posted were disregarded. I really got after it this evening and I tihnk I got rid of the HSA bug thing thanks to the many threads and other people you have helped.

My problem now is I have hotkeys on my laptop (ie: an Internet Explorer Launcher, Wireless On/Off, Power Setting which are right above the F9-F12 keys if that makes a difference; and on the side "Play, FF, REW, and STOP buttons that launch Windows Media Player). None of these work right now, they stopped working when I discovered the HSA Trojan. Now that the HSA is gone (I think and hope), and my background is back to normal (seemingly), I would love for someone to help me figure out how to get these hotkeys back up and working again.

And again, I appreciate the help. I also apologize for the other emails I wrote before really getting after it and seeing what other people did to get rid of their problems. Hopefully they weren't a problem. I was a little scared and hasty, not the best for decision-making or thread writing.

Set your system to Show Hidden Files and folders.

For Windows XP or ME, Disable System Restore.

Reboot into Safe Mode.

Make sure that all Internet Explorer or any other browser windows or internet applications are closed. Do not have any other unnecessary programs running.


Run Hijack This. FIX entries above (place a checkmark beside the entries, and then press the Fix Checked button.)

Stay in Safe mode, manually locate the exe and dll files in the entries above, and quarantine them.


Reboot normally, check things out, and come back to let us know how it turned out. Post a fresh HJT log for review. If things looks clean, re-enable your system restore and set a new restore point.

Now, to see if you accidentally deleted a startup program you needed, please go into HJT, click the Config button, and go into Backups. Check the list of items you have previously removed with HJT. Do any of them look like they should be there? Loof for anything with a file path that matches up to the brand of your laptop (is it an Intel? you have a lot of Intel entries in your log.) If you think you find the appropriate item, do a google search on the file name. If it comes back with matches that look legit, restore that item in HJT.

Thank you for letting me know that those other two files should be deleted. However, I must have deleted the backup files that HJT created earlier, because the only ones in the backup section of HJT are the two that you told me to delete.

Everything seems to be fine now (no more pop-ups) but the hotkeys still don't work. Hopefully I didn't totally screw up by deleting those backed-up files. By the way, this computer was made for me by a friend, but I do believe it is mostly Intel. Here's the latest HJT log:

I have some hotkeys (shortcut keys, not sure what the exact name of them are) on my computer above the F9-F12 and Pause Break buttons. They are specifically an Outlook, IE, Wireless on/off, TouchPad on/off, and Power Mode buttons. Also, on the left side of my laptop, there are FF, REW, STOP, and PLAY buttons that would operate the windows media player.

I noticed that as soon as I got the HSA trojan, all of these buttons stopped working. Even the scroll button on my mouse pad stopped working. I believe I eliminated the trojan, but all these buttons still aren't working. It's not detrimental, just more annoying than anything. I would really like to find out how to get these back up and running. Hopefully there's something we can do.

Let's see what's installed.

Run Hijackthis. Click on "Open the Misc Tools section". Next click on "Open uninstall manager".
Press the button 'save list'. It will open a Notepad file. Place the content of that file here in your in your next post.

No clues there I'm afraid. I think your only solution is going to be to reinstall that program. Do you have a disc that came with your computer with installed programs? Check to see if there's a installation program for Hotkeys on that disc. If you don't have a disc check with your computer maker's web site for downloads. You may just need a driver.
