Do I need All in Wonder?

Hi Chaps,

I'm building a new rig from scratch and am a bit stuck on choice of video card. PC will be used for digital photo and video work plus folding 24/7 :fold::fold:

My question is this, I'm considering either an Abit NF7-S or Asus A7N8X motherboard, both of which have a firewire port. My current elderly rig has an ATI All in Wonder card which covers every possibile I/O situation. Do I still need all the bells and whistles? I just want digital in and out, monitor of course. Don't want TV out.

I'm not in to gaming so I don't think I need to spend loads on a card.

Thanks for any input

Crypto :D

If you don't need all the extras of the AIW then don't pay for them. Chances are a standard card with VIVO capabilities will be fine.

I really like the AIW 9800 Pro :D so I've been eyeing that lately, but I just don't have $400 for it, plus I'm like you in that I'm not a big gamer so I really don't need all that speed.

If you don't need it for gaming, then how about an older AIW card, rather than the new 9800 one, that way you could get the features but not have to pay the money for a top of the line premium card.

But as a2j said, it sounds like you only really need just VIVO rather than an AIW card.

If you only need digital in/out you can use the on board 1394.
Get a plain card. A 9500/9600 pro will be good for a long time.
If you really want great picture quality try the Matrox 650. I saw one running in a box, but I couldn't make any comparisions. They wouldn't let me play with it.
