Can't Install MSN Messenger

edited July 2005 in Science & Tech
I have tried many times, unsuccessfully, to install MSN Messenger. It downloads fine. When I go to install it, I get an error code of 1603. Upon research of this code, it says I need to disable my anti-spyware software...as far as I know, I don't have any anti-spyware software running.

My system also tells me that I have MSN Messenger 5.0 installed; however, I cannot run it (because it needs an upgrade that it won't let me install). I also cannot uninstall it through the Add/Remove Programs feature for some reason.

I have Ad-adware, Zone Alarm firewall, Spybot S&D, AVG free edition.

This is absolutely maddening. I would appreciate some guidance.
Thank you!

    Hi,

Have you tried disabling Zone Alarm? If not, disable it and re-install MSN Messenger.

Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D are spyware and adware removers...

    Hi Trogan!

Yes, I've tried disabling my zone-alarm as well...but no luck!
I'm running XP Home on a Sony PCG-GRT360ZG laptop.

    Thank you!

hmm, my guess is that you have some spyware on your computer that is stoping MSN Messenger from being installed.

Just to make certain that spyware is not the cause click here and download a tool called HiJackThis. Save a text log from HiJackThis and paste it in the Spyware/Virus/Trojan forum. Someone will help clean your computer.

After that, check to see if MSN will install

    Good Luck :)
