Stock fan dba noise

edited July 2005 in Hardware
How do I go about figuring out what dba my stock CPU fan is running at? That way, I'll know what kind of after-market heatsink I want to cut the noise.

I have an Athlon 64 3400+ Clawhammer w/1MB L2 cache as my CPU and use the stock fan.

    My guess is about 38dB.

You can probably look up some similar heatsink/fan units and guesstimate based on what they put out.

if you can hear it at an annoying level its most likely above 30-35dba. bigger is better with fans, you can run them at a lower rpm and still move a decent amount of air, buy a heatsink that can support a 92 or even a 120mm fan.
