FORUM NOOB HERE :-D

k, here's my hardware, i've had the rig running fine since last august :

Gigabyte 7n400 Pro-2 (Rev 2.0, latest BIOS)
1 GB Ares (? crap , but it works) DDR400 running in dual channel
1 Maxtor 120gb SATA (OS located here)
1 Maxtor 40gb ATA (extra storage, obviously)
AMD AthlonXP 3200+
ATI Radeon 9600XT AIW
Windows XP Pro

all my drivers and such are current.

alright , here's my problem : I want to add a THIRD hard drive (regular ATA, just for more storage while i back up and format)

HOWEVER....whenever i connect ANY 3rd drive, or mess with the drive configuration at all, Windows will NOT boot. I get an array of error messages, ranging from "OS not found, etc" to "Corrupt system file".

I'm positive it's not the drive (i've tried 3 different brands and sizes) , i've tried every known jumper and drive/cable configuration, and E-mailed Gigabyte multiple times on this, each with totally unacceptable responses.
:shakehead

i believe it's got something to do with setting the Hard drive device priority in BIOS, (ie, keeping the ATA drive from stealing priority from the SATA drive, since it's not even recognizing i've got the SATA drive attached whenever the drive config is changed.)
however, there's nowhere to change this. I'm running the regular built-in SATA controller, with relatively new drivers (january or so), on RAID configuration as opposed to BASE.

any ideas anybody??

i've been pulling my hair out for weeks on this.
