What's UPnP?

Can someone tell me what is UPnP on BitTorrent? I'm getting messages that goes like "Couldn't listen - unable to forward port via UPnP". What does that mean? Will it affect my connections to seed/peers and affect my download rates in anyway? If so, how do i fix it?

If you don't forward the ports, and you can't upload, then you may not be able to download as fast.
So, your bittorrent program is probably trying to tell your router to open certain ports, and either your router doesn't support upnp or it's turned off. Many routers come with it turned off by default because there are remote security exploits available for uPnP and it's not very safe.
You probably need to get into your router to open the ports that bittorrent uses. 6881 and 6969 are standard
