As it marked the 75 millionth download of its Firefox Web browser, the Mozilla Foundation said it was expanding in several directions.
Mozilla on Tuesday marked the 75 millionth download of Firefox. That number has only a hazy relationship to the number of people actually using the browser; it counts multiple downloads of different versions and doesn't count Mozilla's automatic updates or copies from single downloads distributed through organizations by technology managers

Thats number is total bull****! The same 20 million or so people have downloaded all different versions of the browser. They are making people download a whole new version instead of patching it. I have nothing against the browse, just mozilla trying to cover up the amount of people actually using the browser.

I downloaded it on my Windows 2000 laptop and tried it. It was okay, but I'm used to IE6, and I never seem to have any of the "problems" that most people have with IE6 that would make them want to switch to Firefox.

Agreed. Fantastic browser, far better than IE, but that number is a ruse.

They want people to believe there are 75 million people using it by saying there are 75 million downloads. They are trying to fool people with that number.

The phrase "### downloads" has always been synonymous with number of users, except in this case..
