keeping my XP legitimate

i installed Windows XP Pro SP2 under a student license, activated it when it prompted me that i had 30 days to activate...

...say i want to install this same copy of XP (same key and all) to a new harddrive and remove it from this first one i mentioned...

would it still be legitimate? have access to critical updates, have the ability to activate the new install, and not have to worry about Microsoft thinking that my copy of XP is being proliferated and such?

thank you, forgive my ignorance, i just wanna make sure i have a legit version (for once).

Yes, to remain legal you have to uninstall it from the old hard drive before you install it on the new one. But you can definitely move it to another computer and remain totally legal.

MS will likely see that the CD Key is now being used with new hardware and make you call them (toll-free) to reactivate. If they see you running Windows Update on two machines they might kill the license for both, so make sure you mean it when you say you're going to clear it off the other drive. :)
