Maxtor 5000DV (external) HD replacement
Hi guys,
I'm at work and we had one of these guys bugger up on us. Infamous click of death. Anyways it was just out of the 1 year warranty and we were hoping to reuse the case with a different HD. However, replacing the maxtor 200GB with a 250GB seagate HD has not worked. The external cage powers up and the hd spins up but there it never gets detected by the computer its attached two (we've tried a couple of computers and rebooted em both). I know I can get another cage for $50 cdn (requires FireWire) but if I can get this thing working in a short amount of time obviously it would be good. I did download and install Maxtor's driver.
Edit: should also mention, the device is detected and installed properly by windows when the old maxtor 200 GB drive is in there. I'm getting suspicious that the cage is reading the drive signature and refusing to boot if its not a maxtor diamondmax 9. We also tried a maxtor DM 8 and had no luck.
Any ideas / hints / suggestions?
