Cooler master XDream III (ACC-L81)

edited August 2005 in Hardware
I want to use this on my Athlon Athlon 3000 XP. I've downloaded a doc off the amd website 'Thermal interface material comparison: thermal pads vs. thermal grease'.

On the last page it details that thermal grease should not be used (longterm) for lidless processors such as my Athlon. They recommend a thermal pad.

Looking on various website for review on X dream III it is apparent it doesn't come with a thermal pad. It comes with a tube of something. Is this going to be grease or thermal compound (such as found in thermal pads)?

The Coolermaster website does say it supports Athlon XP up to 3200 - so I'm a bit confused

thermal paste is what everyone uses when it comes to heatsinks. it does a better job dissipating heat than the thermal pad, period.

what AMD is trying to accomplish here is
    A) make their heatsink suppliers happy and
    B) inform you that you shouldn't use the SAME APPLICATION of thermal compound for longterm, i.e. a year or 2, applications. you should reapply every once in awhile
