Half Life 2 Steam Petition

Seems it's not all entirely over with the steam issue. People have started a petition to get required internet access removed from Half-Life 2, but 2 questions still remain, is the required net access a myth and would this even make a difference if it wasn't?

it'll still be pirated by us cheap bastards, even more so now i'd think. you can't stop piracy. even if they made it a hardware level thing, you can't stop piracy. if you don't believe me, go talk to the people pirating direcTV and all the other satellite TV services. you can't stop piracy. let me repeat that if you didn't understand it the first few times. you can't stop piracy.

Steam requires an internet connection now, but that is on Valve's list of things to fix and they have even commented on it before. Steam now requires an internet connection but in the future you will just need an internet connection to set-up your account and then you can play offline whenever you want. Also, you will be able to buy a normal HL2 boxed copy OR download the game off of Steam. I am 100% sure by the time HL2 comes out they will have the required internet connection issue fixed. Anyway, i don't expect any of you are buying HL2 over Steam :P

I think the aim is to stop the lazy pirate. Its kinda like car alarms and the sort, they're only there as a deterrent to most people. If someone really wants to steal something they will.

If they somehow deter kiddiescripters the world would be a better place.
