After many beta testers noticed their GeForce 6x00-cards didn't support the new effects in Windows Vista with the native drivers, the rumours started about Nvidia working on LDDM-enabled drivers for the OS, and on friday Nvidia released them. This gives full support to all the new effects offered by the new UI-engine in Windows Vista Beta 1.

Other hardware components like soundcards are causing problems too, and theres no indication that Creative will be releasing (beta) drivers for Live! & Audigy cards anytime soon. Windows Vista beta 1 shipped with no support for DirectSound, but there are ways to enable limited sound support.
