Changing motherboard with XP

Soon I'll be chaning my motherboard and cpu in my computer. I'll be keeping the current hard drive with XP on it. I know I need to do some type of XP Repair Install to change the system files to recognize the new motherboard, but I'm not sure which method I need to do.

After reading this, can anyone tell me the steps I need to take?

Also: I'm using XP Home OEM, so I suure hope that's not an extreme problem :(

Do you have a real copy of WinXP, or one of those "repair CD"s that came with a Compaq, HP, etc?

no its a real copy of XP. It's OEM, the kind you buy for $90-$100.

I think I found the right instructions on that link, but just wanted to check with you guys.

you need to at least do a repair install (done by moving through the windows cd installation like you were doing a clean install, but then instead of deleting your active windows installation there should be a button for "repair installation"), ideally you would just do a clean format, since there you'll have extra drivers laying around, and you wouldn't really want conflicts

hm. I was wondering if I should do that, but it would take weeks to get everything back on and normal again. I think I'll try the Repair Installation route.

Should I use the instructions in the link?
