Win XP 64 did not detect my Hard disk

Help! :confused:
win xp64 setup did not detect my sata hdd and I had to quit . I run win xp pro on a Amd Athlon 3000+on MSI Mobo with a 80 Gb Samsung Sata drive with 1 gb ram etc. The messege I get is "Your system does not have a hard disk Installed......etc.." when I am running a win xp pro without any problems on C: I have 3 partitions 20,30 & 30 gb .

    did you hit F6 when prompted during installation and install the 64 bit driver for your SATA controller?

    Ya I did hit F6 and inserted the driver floppy which came along with the system and selected the driver for Win XP .... but it says " The driver is not compatable with the ver of Windows you are installing etc.." and I had to quit :( . Any further advice...?? Thanks

    make sure you have the x86-64 version of the driver - the one that came with the computer is likely the version for 32 bit windows. You'll likely need to download it from either the motherboard's manufacturer's site, or from the SATA controller's site.

    You may not realize it yet but NOTHING works without special new 64bit drivers. Which is why the 64bit version has been so slow to be adopted.

    many popular sound cards, nics, printers, scanners, webcams etc.. do not have drivers. There are almost no virus scanners either.
