Problem using gateway to network PC and notebook

edited August 2005 in Science & Tech
Hi i have a PC and a notebook both running Windows XP with SP2. The PC has a Westell Versalink gateway (model 327W) running Verizon DSL. The notebook is a Sony Vaio with a built-in wireless adapter. I want to network these two computers so i can print from the notebook and share files etc. My problem is that when I run the Wireless Network Setup Wizard, it asks me to save the settings onto a USB flash drive, and then plug them into the PC, the notebook, and the westell gateway (modem/router). Thats where I am stuck. I can't plug any USB connector into the gateway. Is there any other way to save the settings onto the gateway/access point??? What do I do now? I will be very happy if someone could help me do this all over again. Thanks in advance!!!

OKAY....I HAVE FOUND THE RESOLUTION TO MY PROBLEM.....at first the problem was that i couldnt see the workgroup computers from my notebook.....this was because the firewall program (Norton) needed to be configured to allow access to the desktop....in other words......(here is a comment i found from www.experts-exchange.com)

one of the reasons that you cannot see other computers on the network even though they are on the same work group is when there is some firewall installed on the other computers that you are trying to access. firewalls like norton internet securities cause the computers not to be shown online even when they are online. you need to put the ip addresses of the computers in the "trusted ip address list" of Norton Internet Securities. then these computers will be displayed as well as they will be accessible. if these ip addresses are not added in the list, then even if these computers are being showed in your network places, they will not be accessible.

AFTER HOURS OF RESEARCHING ON THE NET.....I FOUND THIS.....HOPE THIS HELPS ANYONE WHO HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AS ME!!!!!
