Got a bad folder name

edited August 2005 in Science & Tech
I've just after renaming one of folders by mistake. the new name is something like ". ", which is dot and a space. windows lost that folder straight away, but in cmd-dos mode when you type dir, it shows that folder is there. and shows only a dot for the name of the folder. and it wouldn't find files which were in this folder.
but the folder exists as dos can see it and it takes a few 100's megs on the disk, so it is there.
is there any cure for this sort of problems, or any way to extract them files from that folder.
Thanks.

if you open the cmd prompt, and type "rename " and then hit "Tab" it will cycle through the names of all the folders. It should let you pick the one you accidently renamed. There is an entry in every directory called "." which points back to the same directory - this isn't the one you want.

What OS is this? XP Pro SP2 wouldn't let me rename something to ". "
