Talk about bad luck

Well i went to amds show in july and they were selling the asus A8N-E 939 socket motherboard with the Amd anthlon 64 3200 cpu for $250 including windows x64. Now its August and asus hasnt certified there drivers yet and neither ATI. Well the mother board drivers are still beta but they say WHQL on it and they crash my comp. Talk about bummer.
Heres the question should i trust the WHQL for the motherboard drivers or not. Also should i go with the beta BIOS WHQL or not. lol i just dont know why they can have beta WHQL.

I wouldn't bother yet. Despite the desire to go to a full 64bit OS, there are no performance benefits that you can gain until drivers are considerably more mature and applications have 64bit native use :(

This scenario is very similar to when Windows 2000 came out. Alot of enthuiasts jumped onto the bandwagon and installed it. Horrible driver support, terrible program compatibility and generally a waste of time & effort. Win64 is just like that. Give the OS time to mature and then go right ahead. I have had an athlon 64 for over 18 months but Im still on 32bit WinXP until I see OS maturity and proper developer support :)

True but companys selling computers with the OEM version of x64 have comfigured it to their hardware. So I should be able to do the same. Just a disappointment.

I have my ASUS A8N-SLI Premium, GeForce 6800GT, SBLive, Logitech Freedon 2.4GHz joystick, etc. all working perfect under Windows XP Pro. x64. WHQL doesn't mean a whole lot to me, I rarely have issues with non-WHQL drivers. have you tried not using the drivers on the Asus website, but instead using the ones at http://nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp ? The 6.66's work great for me.

Yes they do. Using beta drivers. No one is reviewing or rating these PC's are 32bit Windows killers... this is because XP64 simply doesn't cut the mustard for the more enthuiastic members of the crowd ;)

It will in time, patience is required. I beta tested XP64 & I have the volume license version installed on one of my PC's at work (we have bought 10 licenses). The OS is there, the drivers & apps aren't ... yet....

Well one problem is that there are 6 unkown drivers. So i cant pinpoint them but i have a pretty good idea that it is the graphics card.

You are unlikely to have 6 devices for a graphics card. What does the device manager tell you about the display..? Does it list a general VGA adapter or the correct driver loaded for your GPU....?

Well #1 this is the All in Wonder so it has atleast 3 or 4 drivers that i know of
And im currently reinstalling the graphic drivers..

I would be seriously worried about how well that card would work with XP64. I know the ATI betas for standard cards aren't too bad but for an all in wonder, Id be concerned for things like capture.

Let us know how you get on, im interested :)

For what it's worth, I've had no luck finding 64-Bit drivers for my ATi TV Wonder VE. That's the main reason I haven't even dabbled with XP64 yet.

Well I submitted a ticket to ATI cause i did all i can do. Thank you for the help. If ATI doesnt come through..Ill just pop in my 32-bit sp2. But im trying.

P.S.I am suprised on how organised and prepared Nvidia was for 64 then ATI. I think I'm still liking Nvidia the best.lol
