What controller? What model/make of hard drives? How did you hook up the drives? On the same cable? On differant cables on seperate channels? On the end connector on a two device cable ? How were they jumpered? Master? Slave? Cable select?
Does the controller detect them properly? Does it detect one but not the other?
See how many variables we have to guess at? If you can fill in the holes we can get ya up and runnning.
Start with this. Make sure the drives are BOTH jumpered to CS or cable select. Only work with ONE DRIVE at a time at first. Hook up ONE drive to the end connector on the ide cable. The one on the opposite far end of where you connect it to the controller. Boot up and watch and see if the controller see's that ONE DRIVE properly.
Hopefully you have a dual channel controller. If the first drive is recognized repeat and put the other drive on the OTHER CHANNEL on a seperate cable.

i have nailed down about 70% of the problems i previously listed through dogged determination an damn good luck by sorting out the jumpers and re alighning the HDD ribon cables so that now i have all drives and cd/dvd/etc showing on (my computer) but i am still left with the RAID set up at bios now it does not seem to recognise the drive but alows the system to boot properly now.I try to tell it what to do but it seems not to work.
I would deeply apreciate some more of your time and valued efort if this is your bag to resolve the isue. i can scan and e mail you the set up book fopr the hardware photos of the cable set up and any other info req just let me know what i need to do.remote assist is also a possibility (all valuable info on removable drive).
PS
I have built this PC myself from scavanged parts and donations and one day hope to build my own mini server network for my buisness and home use.
THANK YOU for your time and help.
we will chat soon i hope danthekioman
Glad you made progress. No thanks to me either!
WHERE are the drives you are having trouble with connected?
WHAT raid controller?
Are you even trying to raid the drives or just use the raid header connections?
What level of raid? raid-o or raid-1 etc...
You see ALL the drives in my computer right? Where do we need to go from here? Are they not showing up properly or what? Do you just need to format them or ????
You really never got into HOW/WHERE the hard drives are connected. You do NOT want a hard drive on the same cable as a cd/dvd rom. Hope this helps.

Hopefuly this should answer your xs
where the RAID is is in my system as an ATA/133 RAID controler,in the form of a PCI card direct to the mother board. only 1 port of the controler is in use to one drive (3 in tower) i thought it best to start with one and iron out any wrincles than 3 at one go.
What raid controler, is a pci slot 4 way controler with the appt software ( only one port used to 1 hdd for now)
RAID 0 or 1 i dont understand
All drives show in my computer and work but when i start my system it starts in the RAID config utility and wants answers that i dont fully understand.
BIOS screen reads
primary channel:
drive no :0
drive no :1 samsung sv 4084h 32253 mb
secondary channel :
drive no : 2
drive no : 3
set 1 <1> samsung sv 4084h <ps> 32253 mb
f1 del raid set
f2 create raid set
f3 spare drive
f4 resolve conflicts
f5 config 1st hdd
esc to exit
i want to configure the system so more drives can be added at a later date ie 1 drive for os+ progs, 2 drive for storage and back up, 3 for portable drive(removeable), 4/5/6 for the 3 pcs in use.
I hope that helps you to understand the issue more but knowing these things there will be lots more you need to know before we can lie to rest this minor irk nd quirk
Who makes the controller exactly?
It appears you have one drive (the samsung) attached to the raid controller. It appears as a slave. It shouldn't. Set it to CS or cable select and put it on the end of the cable.
what is left to accomplish right now? You mentioned that all drives show in "my computer".
What do you need help on at this point?
