No idea what this means. All of a sudden, this message shows up everytime I start GAIM. I just hit Cancel, and GAIM starts up just fine. Whats the deal?

It sounds to me like you might have moved the default destination for downloads. Try fiddling around with that setting.

Gaim sends it to the home folder by defult (My Documents in windows).

Ive never seen this error in gaim before but my buddy had steam start doing this to him once ;D he reinstalled windows and never saw the error again.

That's what I'm getting at, Pilotwings. Right now it seems to think there is a harddisk5 somewhere. did you download something to a removable drive, like a USB memory stick? It may be looking for that as the new default destination.

no I haven't done anything like that really. I don't understand how downloading something would interfere with GAIM running, and why it works perfectly fine after I hit Cancel...

edit: The only things in My Documents folder are My Pictures, My Music, My Videos, Aquamark3, Incomplete folder for LimeWire, and a saved file. Thats it. Nothing about GAIM. (Yes I checked hidden files too)

When a program starts it usually checks to make sure that everything it may need to use is available. If somehow your default download directory got changed to a nonexistant location it would likely alert you. By hitting Cancel you are merely telling the program to ignore the problem - until the next time you start it...

What is your default download directory in GAIM set at now?

C:/Program Files/GAIM if thats what you mean. That's where everything is. I already looked in there and found no folders with the names in the error message. I did a search for them too and found nothing.

I don't use GAIM myself, so it's kind of hard to be specific. See if there is a Tools or Options or Preferences area (whatever) where you can specify a downloads folder.
