OS:Windows XP 64-bit Edition or other?

i'm trying to put together a new system for the first time and was wondering what OS to use.

this is what i have in mind at the moment.

Processor:AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 2.0GHz Dual Core Socket 939 512K L2 Cache ( Retail Box )

Operating System: ???
Motherboard:Asus A8N-SLI Premium Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI w/ Dual-Ch DDR400, Dual Gb LAN, SATA 3Gb/s, Dual RAID, 8-Ch Audio, Dual PCI-E

Memory: OCZ PC-4200 DDR2 Value Series 1GB (2X512MB) Dual Channel Kit (OCZ25331024VDC-K)

Video Card:
ATI Radeon X800XL 256MB 256Bit GDDR Dual Display DVI/VGA/TV-Out PCI-Express x16

Hard Driver:Seagate 250GB ST-3250823AS Barracuda 7200.8 SATA w/NCQ Hard Disk

    You can't use DDR2 memory in that system. Right now DDR2 isn't supported by AMD. I have the same motherboard and i'm using Windows XP Professional x64 Edition with no major problems. There are a few issues with some programs, but most have 64-bit editions planned (Daemon Tools, TrueCrypt). I've heard ATI's 64-bit graphics drivers aren't up to par right now.. but i'm not sure the details. I know that I have no issues at all with my 6800GT drivers or drivers for any of my hardware.
