Higher Upspeed

I've been looking at connections here in the UK that have a higher upload than standard ADSL as currently I'm trying to run a site and other things on a home 512/256 line and it's just not working (and still being charged £29 a month for a substandard service too, stupid Nildram).

Anyway, does anyone know of any connections that would be possible with a higher upstream? I was looking at one and it was £137 a month for 512/512Kb! Geez.

    Yikes!

I recently upgraded my cable modem service to 768kbps uploads for an additional $20 a month. The basic service costs $40 a month.

Sorry, but I have no idea what options are available in the UK. Maybe Spinner, Shorty, Jimborae, etc can help you out. :) :ukflag:

I have yet to find an option with a decent upload. Bulldog was the closest with a 400+ but they have been bought by Cable & Wirless, which took their service to hell :(

This was taken from ADSLguide.org and can be found here

I'm afraid sdsl is still very expensive in the uk and that sounds like the type of service you require :(

"Another week has gone by, and we are seeing more reductions in the price of SDSL services, this time from Onyx Internet. While SDSL is still far from consumer priced, at £150 per month for a 2Mbps service it will be proving very attractive to small businesses that require the faster upstream speeds.

    Product
Old monthly fee New monthly fee

    Business SDSL Silver (512Kbps) £215 £115
    Business SDSL Gold (1Mbps) £310 £130
    Business SDSL Platinum (2Mbps) £370 £150
    Managed SDSL Broadband Silver (512Kbps) £240 £140
    Managed SDSL Broadband Gold (1Mbps) £335 £155
    Managed SDSL Broadband Platinum (2Mbps) £395 £175

The set-up fee on the basic business service remains fixed at £500, but the managed service has the set-up cost dropping from £800 to £600"

If you can get Blueyonder cable in your area then their 4mb service offers slightly higher up speed of 384Kbps. And rumour has it that ntl's 10mb service when it launches later this year will have a 384Kbps upload too but that's purely rumour.

There is no Cable service anywhere near here and the attenuation on the line is so bad that it is just below the allowable limit for 1Mb.

Yeah, I saw those earlier today Jim.
The UK sucks, heh, so it seems like I'm stuck.

Oh, does anyone have anywhere I could store a signature please? The server needs PHP and GD support...

For that kind of money, wouldn't it be far cheaper to host your stuff elsewhere?

I run a DNS server, Webserver, eMail (and IMAP), FTP, NWN Server, IRC servers etc so not really :P But yeah, I wouldn't buy one of those services anyway, not worth the cost.

The Signature question was kinda an offshoot, not related.
