Simple software you wish someone would write...

What piece of software do you wish someone would write..? It doesn't have to be complicated, just a simple idea that could be written
I needed an application to monitor drive space on two servers on a friends network and report it via email if it dropped below a certain size. Constructed a windows service and it's working great. Did get me thinking though...? What other programs has no one else thought of that you wish someone would write

Then you push "Go!" and watch the magic happen.
It would overheat precise sections of the component you selected, until it melted into just the model you want. Instant (and free!) upgrade.
If only, right?
1. use png files for icons
2. get nifty desktop effects like a mac.
I dont want a program that runs in the back ground, just a simple program you run one time and it hacks windows to do this natively.
im a dreamer...
I can usually think a a BUNCH Of simple easy programs that would be very nice to have, but alas I can think of nothing at this moment :o
What I would like is a very small, very graphically simple program to manage my music library. I'd like it to go through, and sort it by a naming scheme that I choose (using variable, like %1 = artist. That's how Tag&Rename works, but this would be on a different level).
It should be able to read ID3 tags and if it finds one that doesn't have the album tagged, it should be able to check the file names/directory names and find out what it is.
Hm... it's not "simple" but I don't think it's overly complicated, either.
I would want it to simply be a pie chart. With each slice of the chart representing a different top-level directory (or file in the root directory). Mousing over one of the slices would reveal another pie chart to the side, which represents the space used by the files and directories within that directory, those slices could then also be moused over to the same effect. If you moused over a file, it would expand the details of that file instead.
This would help the user to see exactly where their drive space has gone to, and maybe help them to decide which programs and files are unnecessary.
I had a program that did almost exactly that, can't remember what it was though.
Well I am not sure exactly how it works. Basically you install a small application that records the log from the router and dumps it to a text file on a PC. The app runs in the windows system tray. You can view real time traffic stats through the app in the sys tray as well.
I looked on the linksys site for the app, but cant seem to find it. I think there is a download link in the router firmware. I will check when I get home and post more info here.
I think the Linksys router firmwares are quite hackable. I have seen tutorials here on how to hack different parts of the firmware.
There are lots of homebrew firmwares out there for the WRT54G router. They do all kinds of things. One of them even runs a gateway for xlink kai, which allows you to play LAN game console games over the web by encapsulating the non-routable protocol packets of those types of games into an IP packet, and tunneling it across the web.
Very cool stuff! I sure wish I had the skillz to do stuff like that.
EDIT: I never really answered your question fully. Sometimes I get to rattleing off at the keyboard. Sorry about that. It is web based only AFAIK.
Linksys units are pure web-based, but use SNMP trapping for detailed logs.
A calendar software system which pulls information from RSS Feeds of various places and events (aka sporting stuff, concerts, etc) and notifies you, by your interests, and adapts on the fly, and checks the weather etc...and your current schedule, to see if you have time. And then suggests events to you, if you have free time. AND then lets you book said event, etc.
I'm certainly being complicated.
