Can I disable this sucker? I want to get rid of it badly, because I have a memory card device that is always plugged in and also a wireless usb adapter.

you can tell windows to "always hide" the icon if you right click the taskbar, click customize next to the hide inactive icon checkbox.

That is one way to make that icon disappear, but then you add the arrow and I never forsure know if something else is hiding that I want to see. Basically I just never have that hide feature enabled. I usually have 0-3 at most icons there.

Try this program. It needs to be run each time you reboot however.

You can set an icon to "Always Show" as well as "Always Hide". I resisted using that feature for a long time, but once I got used to it I came to like it.
