.dmg files

edited September 2005 in Science & Tech
I'm not too sure if this is where I enter for macs, but I am running mac os x 10.0 on a g3 processor and I can't read any .dmg files. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem. If you have or know how to fix this problem I would greatly appreciate any help yoo could offer. Thanks in advance for any help. And sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

What happens when you double click on it?

    Aren't .dmg mac-created .img files?

I'd suggest popping a free CD Burning Package on that computer, or a Mac equivilent CD Image Mounting Software.

os x IS a free CD burning package. Normally in OSX, .dmg files are associated with disk utility. Try forcing it to open in disk utility.

thanks for responding but I have tried all of those and I am so stumped. I tried transmac (program that converts .dmg files to .iso) Doing this it will read the disc and show me the contents. Still I cannot open the start up (.exe in pc) file. When I double click on it it says it connot verify the file. When i try to force it with disc copy it does the same thing. very stumped on this.

Have you tried opening it in Disk Utility?

If you're really using 10.0 (the original OSX) then I can't really help you, that's a very outdated and almost "beta" quality OS. You need to upgrade to at least 10.2 to get any really useful tools.

Any suggestions on how to upgrade to 10.2? Haven't really done any of this before, and suggestions would be apprechiated.

    Thanks.

To upgrade you will have to pay for the new operating system version. In this case the latest version of os x is 10.4 which you can buy here. I don't know where you could buy earlier versions from. The minimum specs for 10.4 are 0here and as for upgrading, it will be as simple as ollowing on screen prompts when you put in the disc of your new os x version. :) i might have missed some things that prime would want to add...
