Windows XP Pro Locks up at shutdown/reboot

First post here, excuse me if this issue's been discussed before. I live down the hall from General Keebler and he just suggusted asking here.
My system has recently started locking up completly at shutdown/reboot. Apps start to be killed when I choose shutdown or reboot then everything locks up. The mouse stops working, the keyboard doesn't work, no alt ctrl delete. It doesn't BSOD, so I dont believe I have logs of why its happening. I am forced to hard power off the system.
I was looking for some guidance in ways I might be able to resolve this.
