Recover data from a formated hard drive

I accidentally format my hard drive and install Windows OS over it. What is the best software to try to recover my data back?

    If you did a full format not a quick one... you may need something like Harry Potters magic wand. Or someone like the CIA or FBI etc.. are said to be able to still recover it. I think they have very specialized hardware not just software to assist them though.

    I used a program called Stellar Phoenix FAT and NTFS and it was able to recover my deleted partition, but it also recovered some files from the previous owner. So perhaps give that a try?

    He didnt just delete a partition. He formated. If he did a full format you can't recover it easily. The key here (sorry I wasnt more clear) is what type of format he chose.
