New Comp opinions

edited September 2005 in Hardware
I've been looking around at what I want for my new rig and here's what I've come up with:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103539

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813188002 (picked this MB due to the combo deal)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130234

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103937

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811133132

I think that's about everything I need. I'll be taking the gig of ram out of my current rig and putting into this...as well as all the drives. I could probably get a cheaper case, but I really like the look of that one. Also, I'm curious about the video card...would I get better performance with say two 6600's? Actually even two 6800 GT's wouldn't be that much more expensive. Please give me your opinions.

Thanks!

I don't know how that mobo does on overclocking but it looks like you have some nice stuff there.

If I were you I'd go for an OCz psu.

no 2 6600s would not perform better, i wouldnt get 2 6800s just save up and get anouther 7800. that nice cpu but i would get a 3200 or a 3500, youll be able to reach 3700 speeds easy and would free up some cash for a better psu. antec phantom or ocz powerstream. that case is... ok if you like it but i would go with a coolermaster or lian li. other than those things that mobo and card are awesome, i just bought the same deal, what memory are you going to be using?
  • edited September 2005
This is the memory in my current comp:

As far as the case goes it was tough to decide...I like the coolermaster wavemaster case also...The main reason I liked that case more is the side window.

I also went to a 3500+ and this PSU based on your recomendations:

why is everyone getting rid of vx4000?
  • edited September 2005
You can probably get a better price on that psu.

I paid $75 for mine on monarchcomputer.com around a month ago.

Probably a stupid question but what is wrong with my current RAM? Also I should probably have said that I'm not really planning on overclocking any of this, I'll just leave it stock speeds though.

    Everyone?

I only got new ram because I wanted 2x1 gb.

4000vx is much better clock for clock than my current RAM though.

I've never had a single problem with an Antec PSU. I wouldn't switch away unless I could afford PC Power & Cooling, or got an unreasonably great deal on a well-recommended PSU so I could personally test it without risking much.

I wouldn't hesitate to stick the Antec PSU you originally had listed in any new PC build.

Your curent ram has higher latencys so it takes longer to do the same task.

    wonderful case choice :)

i had no idea evga made motherboards until just now :p

Yeah I was kinda looking for some feedback on that MOBO...it's nforce 4 though which is my biggest concern. I had too many problems with VIA chipsets...

Also as long as my ram is "good enough" for now I'll be happy...what type of performance difference are we talking?? If we're talking 4 more points in 3D mark it isn't worth it for me right now.

supports 120 fan so its large, make sure it'll fit in your system.

"Light weight and easy installation" lol doesn't look light weight. How easy is it to install really? I hate intalling AMD heatsinks, I'm always afraid I'll slip and ruin something.

haha yeah that does look huge, but I hear its a very good one. They're very easy to install. They fit very tightly, but I haven't had any problems yet.

That moyherboard is actually made by Jetway as Evga does not make motherboards and is exacty the same as this Jetway. The performance is actually rather mediocre as is its oveclocking abilities. VX ram will be rather useless in that mobo as the vdimm cannot be adjusted high enough to take advantage of its full potential. Neither mobo is on Thermalright's list as to compatability.

The only difference between the Evga and the Jetway are the colors.

Just to be safe, you might want to go with the XP-120's not-so-little brother, the XP-90 or the XP-90c. Pretty much guaranteed to fit any motherboard except for one chaintech.
