Battlefield 2 features a brand new graphics engine that’s designed to take advantage of the latest DirectX 9 graphics cards, while the game’s large 64-player maps can push your PC’s memory subsystem like never before. With this in mind, we’ve put together an optimization guide for Battlefield 2, summarizing all the game’s settings, as well as their impact on performance.

Am I the only one that failed to notice any erm... optimisation guide there? Just screenshots comparing high and low graphics settings... results being... well, pretty obvious really. Seemed utterly unnecessary to be honest.

Nice name too.. "Trogdor". People should be proud of their origniality. :shakehead

Yes, you are the only one...did you even read the article or just look at the pictures? If you read the article you'll see that for most ingame options it shows how setting those options to low / medium / high will affect performance at certain resolutions on various types of graphics card. eg:
    Texture
    ...
    1024x768 Performance Analysis

This setting is definitely influenced by the amount of memory on your graphics card. Setting this to Low for Budget cards is recommended. Some of the Mainstream cards may also want to set this to Medium or Low to improve gameplay. High-end cards ran very well at this setting (>65fps average with 2xAA).

    1280x960 Performance Analysis

High-end cards need not worry about this resolution either. Mainstream cards except the X800 Pro and the 9800XT set this to Low. Budget cards set to Low.

This giving you a 'guide' to 'optimising' your settings for Battlefield 2. Hence the name of the article.

I did read that, but it all seemed like common sense to be honest.

No it's not common sense. The guide is useful for people like me who don't know which options to set as low/medium/high and in what combination.

Being extreme here if I set the game resolution at it's top level and all the other settings to the lowest, will I get a better experience than if I do the opposite say, or if I have a mix of the two.

    I found it useful.
