really confused

yesterday i realised that all the folders and their contents in my pictures were "missing"

when i went to find them, they were nowhere to be found

so i got a filer recoverer and discovered that word documents, music and pictures and movies were all deleted from "my documents"

i know theres probably no hope in retrieving them anymore but is this a virus and how do i know if its still on my computer?

i've run all my spyware programs and nothing out the ordinary has been found
