windows explorer crashing.

edited September 2005 in Science & Tech
Hello all,

I've been having a problem with windows explorer crashing. I have a large ( 2 gb) folder full of image (tiff) files on one of my hard drives. I've been using this folder (opening and closing images) for several weeks now. Today when i try to open these files through windows explorer, explorer keeps crashing!!
Does anyone know what's happening. This happened once before and i was able to copy the entire contents of the folder and put it in another folder and was able to open them in there. But this is happeneing again and i would like to find out why. Some of the image files are pretty big, 300mb, and i wonder if opening and closing these many times, somehow corrupts windows explorer.

I've tried rebooting the computer but it still happens.

I went through and checked for viruses using all the advice from the spyware forum. The computer is clean.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Just out of curiosity, have you tried splitting the contents of the folder up into...say maybe 2 to 3 different folders and tested for explorer crashes? Just wondering...also, what OS and service pack level.

Yes i did, and it still does it. Using XP pro, and service pack 1.

SP2 caused a lot of problems with Adobe premiere so i erased it.
