Ultra ATA hard drive into a NEW SATA computer?

edited September 2005 in Hardware
Trying to install a 2 year old Ultra ATA into a new Sony Vaio that uses SATA (just as a secondary drive). Got the connectors from a local computer place but I cannot get it to work. Set the secondary drive to slave and master, neither would boot. Set it to cable ready and it booted fine but would not recognize it in my computer or command prompt. Got 80 gigs on this drive an need to know if I can use it/how to install it. Thanks to any that can help.

explain the "connectors" you got.... Are they adaptors? Or is there a spare ultra ATA port on the motherboard?

I have a Seagate 7200.7 hard drive. The connectors are a Manhattan Serial ATA 150 to IDE converter and a power cable.

It may be that the SATA Converter is crap. Try to get your hands a Abit Serillel SATA converter, they work great.
