System Freezes when inserted CD

This problem is what i am unable to understand why it happens

Whenever i insert CD in the CD-ROM the system freezes for few seconds but when the CD is started getting read the system itself comes back to normal

Can any1 tell me the reason of the problem & how to correct it ?

Check to make sure that the CD-ROM is not running in PIO mode, as that will severely slow the system down when accessing the cd.

Also, is the CD-ROM sharing the channel with another IDE device?

How to check that it is not in PIO Mode & plz help disabling it coz i dont have much info bout hardware

Device Manager>IDE ATA/ATAPI CONTROLLERS>Primary IDE Channel>Advanced Settings>DMA if available

Device Manager>IDE ATA/ATAPI CONTROLLERS>Secondary IDE Channel>Advanced Settings>DMA if available

these are already set to Transfer Mode : DMA if Available(for both)
But current transfer mode is PIO Mode

If your system detect transfer errors when reading a optical drive it automatically reduces the transfer level from DMA down through the PIO levels eventually to PIO1

Just change it back and check your drive, it might be failing.

my CD-rom drive is old i think this can be problem . If so ho & what kind of things do i need to get repaired.
