Andrea's Hijack this log

Hello,

I am having a lot of problems with my computer and really need help! I have Norton Antivirus and ran a scan and it did not detect any viruses. I ran Ad-Aware as directed and it found some problems, including Lop.com. I followed the instructions for removal through Ad-Aware. I also ran a Spybot scan and it did not find any problems. The major problems with my comuter are a lot of pop-ups, a toolbar at the bottom of my screen that I can't close or get rid of and a Dr Watson Post Mortem Debugger error message. I am really not sure what to do. I also think I have some registry problems because when I try to run regedit, I get an error message. Any help you can give me would be very much appreciated. I'm attaching my Hijack this log.
Thank you in advance.

Andrea

    Run the PurityScan uninstaller.

    ==

    Go to Add/Remove programs and remove(uninstall) the following, if present:

    TSA

    The above could appear anywhere within the entry. Be careful not to remove any personal or system software.

    ===============

    Run HiJackThis, click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.speed-search.biz/index.html

    Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

    ===============

    Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure you are able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

    folders...

    C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\tsa
    C:\DOCUME~1\Dan\APPLIC~1\DEFYAM~1

    files...

    C:\Documents and Settings\Dan\Application Data\othb.exe

    Search for...

    msnmessag.exe

    ...using "Start | Search...".

    -

    Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in "Safe Mode".

    -

    Reboot.

    ===============

    To help protect your system from hostile ActiveX content, or special 'downloadable' files:

    Download, install and keep updated, SpywareBlaster. If you've installed it for the first time:

    1) Check for any available updates; if present, they'll be automatically downloaded and installed.
    2) Next, "Enable all protection".
    3) Exit the program.

    -

    Note: Remember to regularly check for updates.

    ===============

    After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.

    Thank you for your reply. I thought I should update and let you know that recently I have been getting a new error message on my computer when I log on. I get a message titled "BtBallon.dll and it says that BTTray.exe was unable to locate component". I just close the window because I'm not sure what to do about it. I started to follow your instructions was I was able to run the PurityScan uninstaller fine. I then went to remove the TSA program, but it was not present. I then did a hijack this scan and tried to fix the problems you told me, but I got a few error messages. The only window I had open at the time was hijackthis, but I'm guessing that I had other programs running in the background and that's what caused the error, but I'm not sure so I thought I would check with you first before proceeding. I'm attaching a new hijackthis log and the error messages I got so this might be a long post. Thanks again for all your help, and hopefully we'll get these problems resolved soon.

    From the looks of those error messages, it is just hijackthis failing to create backups of what you had it fix. Not a problem providing you only fixed what I directed you to fix :).

    I will assume that you managed to delete the files/folders that I directed you to?

    ==

    The following will clean up a little more trash on your PC.

    Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
    http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
    Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.
    Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
    1) Restart your computer
    2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
    3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
    4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

    For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
    http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

    Once in Safe Mode, please run Ewido, and do a full scan. During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK.

    Save the logfile from the scan. Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

    Thanks for your help. My computer is running great now. The pop-ups are gone and so is the nasty toolbar. The only problem that remains is that my "regedit" still doesn't work. When I try and run "regedit" I get an error message saying the file cannot be located. I'm hoping you can still help me out with this last thing (or maybe I have to post it in a new discussion?). I'm attaching my new hijackthis log. I am not able to paste my ewido scan report because the file is too big and it won't let me paste it. Please let me know what to do next. Thanks.

    So when you go to the START menu then RUN and type in regedit nothing happens?
  • edited September 2005
    Ya, when I go to START, RUN, REGEDIT. I get a message that windows cannot locate regedit. I know this is something that may up being really important in the future so I'd like to get is resolved. I had this problem before I did all the other stuff you directed me to do to get rid of my spyware and virus.

    Try doing a search of your system for regedit to see if it does in fact exist.
    If it's not there the only thing I can think of to do would be to either use a 3rd party tool such as reglite or use the XP installation CD to install 'over the top.' That should restore your settings.
    Actually there is another thing. You can try a system restore back to when it worked ok. If you do this, you will need to post another hijackthis log :).

    Sorry for my late reply, but I've been out of town. I did a search and regedit does exist. I can find it through a search, but if I try start run regedit I get a message saying the file does not exist. Please give me some suggestions when you have the time. Thank you.

    If you have your XP installation disc, try installing 'over the top' as this should reinstate whatever is missing there.
    Do not reformat though :).
