Help, my machine has suddenly stopped playing .wmv files. Whenever I try to play a .wmv file I get a message that the file is not recognised or the codec is not installed.I've gone back from Media player 10 to 9. Re-installed 10 several times with no effect. Any ideas?

    You know I had the sma eissue after the last windows update.... whatever it did :( so Instead of really looking into it, I use I Tunes now, I like I Tunes better than Media player anyways :) So I never looked for an answer....

    Try the Codec Pack All in 1 v6.0.2.7 in the S-M Downloads section. :)

    Tried that, and re-downloading media player 10. Still nothing, forgot that I get this error;

    C00D1199: Cannot play the file

    from the "more information button", which is as much use as sandpaper in a toilet situation!

    Install Nero Vision Express and Nero and everything you can find that comes with nero.

    I had the exact same problem and I still don't know why I needed to install all the nero stuff just to play a wmv file.

    Weird :scratch:

    See if you have any luck with the VLC media player. Even if you'd prefer to eventually get WMP running right, it would help in troubleshooting the problem. :)

    VLC has solved the problem, or at least I can play .wmv files on it! I have just sat here with an idiotic grin on my face as a Lancia Stratos rallly car hurtles down an Italian mountain. AWESOME

    See if this program can determine any specifics about the codec, etc, used to make the file(s) you are having trouble with.

    It sounds like you're on the right track. :thumbsup:
