free Random number generator

Would be grateful if anyone could tell me about a free random number generator. Wondered if there was such a facility in windows XP or Office 2000.
Would appreciate it as i need it for a project in which i have to select random samples which are only identified by number.

Also do a search in XP Help & Support just using "Random Numbers" There are MS Knowledge base articles showing how to do it in Excel and also how to create a generator.
