Home Network - Laptop - infected - HJT log attached

Hi - thank you for your time. As I mentioned on my other threads, I have a mess on my hands as a result of Hurricane Rita (forced to go to dial-up, someone else on my machines, etc.) Anyway, I'm trying to clean up all four of my machines. Seems we've been blasted with spyware and virus.

Here is an HJT log for the Laptop. I have already run spybot and adaware. Several virus/spyware found and repaired. Can you please check log.
THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP AND GOD BLESS YOU.

I really thank you guys so much for all your help. I am almost in tears over all that has happened in the past week. Once I get these machines back in good condition then maybe I can get some other things taken care of that Hurricane Rita created.

God Bless You.

Panda ActiveScan still shows this one infected object. How do I get rid of it?

    Adware:adware/block-checker No disinfected Windows Registry

Ok, lets see what we can do here :)

First I need you to download AdAware, which is available from the Short-Media downloads page of Download.com (on the front page).

Once you have downloaded it (or if you have it already), open it up and update the application. This will ensure us that it will scan for the latest spyware bugs.

After you updated Adaware (it will tell you update complete) don't worry about running a scan just yet.

Now I need you to reboot your computer in safe mode. To do this, quickly tap the 'F8' key once you have rebooted your computer. If you see the Windows screen come up, you were not fast enough :P

When you are completely booted up into safemode, open HiJackThis and remove the following entries:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://channels.aimtoday.com/search/aimtoolbar.jsp
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://channels.aimtoday.com/search/aimtoolbar.jsp
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Window Title = Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by Eastex Net
    O3 - Toolbar: AIM Search - {40D41A8B-D79B-43d7-99A7-9EE0F344C385} - C:\Program Files\AIM Toolbar\AIMBar.dll
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [BullGuard 5.0] "C:\Program Files\BullGuard Software\BullGuard 5.0\bullguard.exe" -boot
    O8 - Extra context menu item: &AIM Search - res://C:\Program Files\AIM Toolbar\AIMBar.dll/aimsearch.htm
    O9 - Extra button: MUSICMATCH MX Web Player - {d81ca86b-ef63-42af-bee3-4502d9a03c2d} - http://wwws.musicmatch.com/mmz/openWebRadio.html (file missing)
    O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://www.eastex.net
    O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.checksunlimited.com
    O23 - Service: BullGuard LiveUpdate (BGLiveSvc) - BullGuard, Ltd. - C:\Program Files\BullGuard Software\BullGuard 5.0\BullGuardUpdate.exe
    O23 - Service: BullGuard Main (BGMainSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe" -k bg5 (file missing)
    O23 - Service: BullGuard File Monitoring (BsFileSpy) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe" -k bg5 (file missing)
    O23 - Service: BullGuard Firewall (BsFirewall) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe" -k bg5 (file missing)
    O23 - Service: BullGuard Email Monitoring (BsMailProxy) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe" -k bg5 (file missing)

When those are removed you can go ahead and close out of HJT.

Now (still in safe mode) open up AdAware and run a FULL system scan. If the scan finds anything go ahead and remove it.

When Adware is done reboot your computer back into normal mode. Then run one more Adaware scan just to be sure.

    Good luck :)

if you have any problems let me know

    cheers

Hi Jared - Thanks for your help.

I did everything you requested, but the Adware/Block-checker infection still shows when I run Panda.

Here is a fresh log in case you need it. For some reason the 023 Bullguard entries keep coming back. Bullguard is my antivirus program. Thanks for your help.

    Download Blockrem from HERE

Unzip it to its own folder on your desktop.
Boot your computer to safe mode by rebooting and tapping the F8 button repeatedly until it brings up a boot menu.
From that menu, select Safe Mode by using the arrow keys to highlight it then pressing enter.
Once in safe mode open the Blockrem folder on your desktop and double-click blockrem.bat (this is the file with the gear icon) to run it.
Once it is running please follow the onscreen instructions.
Reboot and post a HijackThis log.

If it didn't find it, it isn't there :). The alert was likely caused by spybot's entry in the registry for defending against it.

    ==

Can you please do the following.

    ===============

Still in HiJackThis, click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/myway
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.dell4me.com/myway
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://www.dell4me.com/myway

Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

    ===============

    Should be good now.

Now that your PC is clean you need to follow these easy steps to keeping it this way:

Secure your Internet Explorer by going here and following the instructions there.

Better yet, use an alternative browser! Download FireFox and give it a run. It is far more secure than Internet Explorer. Or, you can get Opera which in my opinion, is better still.

Use a firewall to help prevent your PC's control being usurped by undesireables. There is a link to a good, free firewall in my signature.

Install and keep updated, Ad-Aware SE, and Spybot S&D.
Run them both on a regular basis, following the manufacturer's recommendations.

Install an anti-virus. There are some good, free AV's available today. Make sure that it is updated regularly and have it scan your system often.

Check for Windows Updates. Microsoft regularly post updates for your systems safe running. Make sure to take advantage of this. Reboot when installed and return to make sure there are no others.

    Clear your Temp folders.
Clear out your Temporary internet files and other temp files.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel >Internet Options.

Under the General tab click the Delete temporary internet files,
delete all Offline content as well. Clear out Cookies.

Also, go to Start > Find/search > Files or folders > in the named box, type: *.tmp and choose Edit > select all -> File > delete.

Empty/delete the entire contents of the C:\Windows\temp folder and C:\temp folder, if you have one. (Contents but not the folder itself.)

    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\

In order to view these files you may have to select 'show hidden files/folders.' Instructions on how to here.

    Empty the Recycle Bin.

    For XP users.
After something like this it is a good idea to Flush the Restore Points and start fresh.
To flush the XP system Restore Points.

Go to Start>Run and type msconfig. Press enter.

When msconfig opens, click the Launch System Restore Button.
On the next page, click the System Restore Settings link on the left.

Check the box labelled 'Turn off System restore'.

Reboot. Go back in and Turn System Restore Back on. A new Restore Point will be created.

Note that all previous restore points will be lost.

    ===============

If you have any more problems, post back.

    -

    Happy surfing,

    crunchie.
