need to buy 2 graphics cards

edited September 2003 in Hardware
I need to buy two graphics card and i am looking for some recomendations....

First off i want one that is just basic that will only be used for internet surfing and work editing and watching a few dvds so it doesn't need to be anything special. I am thinking no more than £70.

I need another video card for someone who will be playing a few games and i would like that would be able to run say half life 2 with not much trouble but again that is too expensive, no more than say £160.

anyone got any recomendations? thanks in advance. :)

I am not sure what the prices are going for in the UK.
For bang for the buck these days ATI is the way to go.
For budget and gaming look at a 9600pro.
For just a basic card, well there are a few. Can you still find an 8500? If not try a 9000. Of course there is nothing wrong with a Ti4200 as a basic card either.

For the Internet/DVD/Work Editing system, look at an ATI Radeon 9200SE. $79.00 CDN. If that's too rich for your blood, look for an older GeForce 4 MX on E-Bay or at a local shop. Stay away from the MX 420, as it uses SDR SDRAM instead of the usual DDR SDRAM.

As for the HL2 system, look no further than the Radeon 9600 Pro, as it will be able to play HL2 at an acceptable play rate (Anandtech's benchmarks show it performing on par with or higher than an un-optimized FX5900 Ultra). $249.95 CDN

for the budget i am going to go with a Sapphire Radeon 9200SE 128MB, cost £51... so i am just after the more high end card.
