Time limit software/options for my kids

Hi all,

I'm looking for a way to limit my kids' time on the computer and/or internet. I know there are things such as NetNanny and CyberPatrol but I'm looking for something real basic that basically forces them to log out after a certain period of time or if it's after a certain time of day. Is there software to do that or is there something in WinXP that I can do to attain this?

Thanks,

Geoff

    Hi Doc,

Don't know if these are useful to you but I just found them:

    http://www.fspro.net/aboss/
    http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/downloads/time_limits_info/
    http://www.softwaretime.com/

I tried to look for a free software but most of them cost with free trials, sorry

You can build yourself a smoothwall that has dansguardian and squidguard installed. Dansguardian will provide the content filtering and squidguard can set up access time rules, etc.

It's not by any means a super-easy drop-in fix, but you will learn a lot of valuable knowledge by doing it. Start at www.smoothwall.org, and then visit www.dansguardian.org and then www.squidguard.org

To clarify: Smoothwall is going to create a router out of an old computer you have laying around. It's very easy to set up. I've used machines as old as a Pentium 166 with 32mb of ram and a 2gb hard drive to make successful smoothwall boxes. You DON'T need good hardware. Although for dansguardian you'll probably want a beefier machine.

Dansguardian will install content filtering (porno, etc.)

Squidguard will give you the ability to set up time limits for various machines, users, etc.
