I got my hard drive and want to put it in as a secondary drive.
Im not sure how to do this, I have it in right now and its working but my system is not recognizing it....

I tried switching the little tiny thing to different positions but Im so confused
and the seagate baracuda doesnt come with any instructions (except for on the hard drive.)

Im using a IDE hard drive.

(I relized I do have SATA..... god)

Any help?

OK mate, this is what you do.

If you are installing the second drive on the same IDE cable as the the first..... The first drive goes on the end of the cable, the second drive goes on the middle connector of the cable.
The links at the back of the drives must be set accordingly ie. The first drive must be set to master, the second drive set to slave.

If you know the exact model of the drives, look them up on the manufacturer's website to find the details of the links.

If the second hard drive is on another cable, it should be set to master and fitted to the end of the cable and any other drive (CD or DVD) should be connected to the middle connector and set to slave.

That should be a good start before you start fiddling about in the BIOS.

    Cheers

hmmmm I remember looking at my seagate and It had something that said

    Master: On

    Slave: Off

so would that make it master? Then how do I make it slave... odd.

Ill take A look on the sites for the drives

So do I have to place it over those 2 pins horizontolly for slave?

    no.

If you want it as a slave you want no jumpers on. When looking at the back of the drive. A jumper (up and down not horizontal) on the far left is master. Thats pins 7-8. On the next two (pins 5 and 6) is cable select. Which is what I would do btw... And no pins at all would be slave.

also after you have the jumpers and cable setup, you have to go into

Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management

and partition and format the drive for it to show in My Computer

or use the software that came with the drive
