i get a press f1 to continue on post...

edited October 2005 in Hardware
For quite some time now i have been getting a Cpu is incorrect or has been changed press f1 to continue error in post. now i know its not really an emergency but it irritates the heck out of me. Now what i wish someone cn tell me why it is that this happens. I personally think my bios is screwed. It also wont let me make any chnage in bios. when i press f10 to save and exit it locks up and i have to press ctl. alt. del.

so if you have any suggestions as to what i can do to remedy this it would be much appreciated
and just in case someone asks yes my computer works fine after i press f1 so yeah

    Set your bios settings right.

What CPU do you have, and what are your FSB and multiplier settings?

If you have a somewhat older MB and a newer CPU it may be a case of it not being identified properly. Tell us what brand and model MB you have and we can see if there is an updated BIOS for you. :)

A BIOS flash may well be the answer. Let me see what's available from Abit.

Which BIOS version do you have now?

    IS7-E2 BIOS 17

    Version: 17
    Released Date: 2004-11-23

    Description:
    1. Added adjustable MAX & MIN multiplier items for certain retail Intel CPUs.
    2. Updated CPU micro code.
    3. Supports certain SATA CDROMs when "OnChip Serial ATA" is running in "Enhanced Mode".
    4. Changed "PWM Shutdown Temperature" to "Disabled". "PWM Warning Temperature" defaults to 95°C.
    5. BIOS compile date: 11/23/2004

If your version predates this one, you should consider updating to the latest release.

    Check it out here. :)

Nope on older p3's if you set the mp or bus wrong it would give you that error message.

Ah. He said he couldn't change anything in the BIOS. You musta missed it. :p

Anyway, I say a BIOS flash would be a good idea.
