Changing from Windows XP welcome screen to Classic Login

edited October 2005 in Science & Tech
Hi guys. Was wondering if you could help. I have Windows XP Pro on my system and wanted to change the login from the welcome screen to the Classic Login where I have to enter my username an dpassword. I went into user accounts and tried to untick the box only to find it already unticked as well as the Fast User Switching Box. I have only one account on this computer, mine, but I still want to be able to log in manually to increase security. I've checked my services and everything is enabled at startup so can't see why I cna't make the change.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hussein.

    it should be exactly where you said, under User Accounts deselect Fast User Switching and Use Welcome Screen

    on this note though, does anyone know where the option is to enable "Press Ctrl-Alt-Del" to begin?

    I believe the machine has to be on a domain for that, Baron.

    patwa, do you have a password set on your account yet? If not, set one, and I believe those options should become enabled.

    thanks will try that. and if it's any help to the other poster there is a registry key in local machine/software/microsoft/windowsnt/ i think and somewhere there are options for legal notices and so on to personalize the login.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
    "LogonType"=dword:00000000
    Cut and past above text in blank txt file (Notepad) and save it as something like "ClassicLogon.REG". The ".reg" is the important part. Then double click on the "ClassicLogon.REG" and click "Yes" and then"OK"... DONE. Reboot is nessecary, I think. If you want to ever change the back...

    These changes can be made without editing the registry but rather by typing control userpasswords2 in the run dialog. This opens a Win2k style user account dialog.

    I don't have local security settings in my administrative tools under XP: Home. Is this a Pro thing?
