WIn Xp, Won't go into stand by or hibernate.

My Win xp Hp computer will not go into Stand by or Hibernate mode. It tries to, but comes out by itself. Also - my scanner runs by itself. Maybe the result of the computer coming in and out of stand by mode. Also - I get a pop up tell me to buy winantivirus (I believe that was the name). I have a Hijackthis log to posy if necessary. Thanks for your help and thanks for this site.

          Download Ewido Security Suite
          • Install ewido security suite
          • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
            • Install background guard
            • Install scan via context menu
          • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
          • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
            • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
            • Then click on Start Update.
          • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
          • Now, scan with it by clicking 'Scanner' on the left and choosing 'Complete System Scan'

          Are you still having problems?

I ran Ewido Security Suite It found 35 infections. Most were cookies.
My computer seems to be working. It goes into stand by mode. I will re-check my "power" settings. I was changing so many settings trying to get this yo work that I have to try to get back to what it was before. Probably the default.

          Thanks very much for everything.

Just incase you may need help with stand-by:
          • Go to Start > Control Panel
          • Open 'Power Options'
          • Under the 'Power Schemes' Tab look for 'System standby' and chose a time from the drop down menu
          • Do the same for 'System hibernates'
          • Hit 'Apply' and then 'OK'
          Thanks very much for everything.
