Windows crash "unmountable boot volume"

edited October 2005 in Science & Tech
I could really use some help from a knowledgable person.
My Niece's computer has been passed on to me to see if I can help. Right now I can't even start it up in safe mode.
keep getting UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME as an error message. With the following technical information posted
*** STOP: 0X000000ED (0X80EBFBB8, 0XC0000032, 0X000000000, 0X000000000)
Could someone please shed some light on this situation for me?
Samantha & I would really appreciate it
Thanks
JBM

    A couple of questions first-

Any idea why this might be happening or something that changed just before you got this? Are you just putting it together? Or did it just come out of nowhere?

Can you give me an idea of what hard drive you have? Motherboard? Is it built by an OEM (Dell, Gateway, HP ... ?)

This can happen when someone uses a wrong hard drive cable or have an improper BIOS setting. There's a couple of other things too. It would help to know more about your system.

I found this too- you might try the chkdsk /r (I'm afraid some damage has been done judging by the code).

Let us know how it goes.

Hopefully someone will be available to help if this does not-

My first suggestion is to make sure the HDD, assuming it is ATA, is to make sure it is on the black 40 pin connector. The blue one is for the CD-ROMs, make sure you don't have those mixed up. If the HDD is SATA, make sure you have it hooked up correctly, and make sure the BIOS match your boot type.

    Goodluck

you probably just need to clean the file system. Boot into recovery console and just clean the filesystem from the command prompt
