Phonebills from Dialers

I have had a couple of dialers on here and I have managed to get rid of them. However this past one I didn't discover until it did some real damage to my pocketbook. I got my phone bill today and one dialer (or maybe two) made phone calls adding up to over $150.00. One dialer made a call to Austria and the other made 9 calls to I think to a Satellite - 881 was the area code. My question is has this ever happened to any one else and did your phone company make you pay the bill. I live in Canada so laws might be different here. Are there specific pre-cautions to take incase a dialer gets on my computer again. I have tons of programs like spybot etc to find them, but I mean steps to take so that they can not dial out at all, before I manage to find them.

In my recent update of Spyware Shooter I have made a great attempt at blocking dialers, mainly after infecting myself with one (bundled with another piece of spyware which I purposely installed to do research on) and didn't realize it for a few hours. If you are looking for protection against dialers and spyware you can download my free software at www.spywareshooter.com.

A few relatives of mine have had dialers before, and when they got their phone bills they called the phone company and the phone company removed the dialer-created calls, which added up to over $600. I'd reccomend giving your phone service provider a call.

If you need help removing a dialer from your system please download HijackThis (it can be downloaded in the "Downloads" section of short-media.com if you don't have it already) and post a log.

Thanks for replying . I did call my phone company and they were willing to take the phone calls off my bill. They will only do this one time, and they they say that I am responsible to secure my computer against future attacks . I downloaded spyware shooter .

Okay, thank you for downloading my software, and that's great that the phone company covered it. If you need it removed please post your HijackThis log. If not, tell me and I will close this topic.
