Video problem on windows 2003

edited October 2005 in Science & Tech
I'm not quite sure if it's the right forum, just tell me if it isn't.

I'm running under windows 2003, and I just changed my video card. I'm now with a chaintech GeForce 6200. The problem is that I just can't play simple video now (I tried with windows media player and real player) but I can play any 3d game a lot better.

When I try de play a video (a .mpg or .avi by exemple), the cpu top to 100%, windows freeze a lot (my mouse move once every 2 seconds) for aboute 30-60 seconds. Than the video will play, but if I start another video, the same problem happens. I tryied nvidia drivers v71.89, v76.44 and v78.01 and they all do the same things. If I turn down the hardware acceleration to turn off directdraw and direct3d (in the advanced panel), the video go well, but now my games won't work.

Since the different driver version do the same things, and if I disable the directdraw/3d, the video goes well, I think It could be a directx problem. If so, how can I force reinstall it, and if not, any idea?

Just to be clear: Is this Windows 2003 as in Windows Server 2003? Or do you have Windows XP?

There's no "Windows 2003" so i want to make clear which OS you are using so we can better help you.

Still it was working with my GeForce 4mx 440, with the same drivers. So there must be some way to make it work.

first run dxdiag.exe to see if there's a directX problem

I hate to say it, I know this is weak, but this may be a difficult problem to fix - you are using an OS that was definitely not made for gaming, to do gaming and video, etc.

Theoretically, it should all work, since Win2K3 server uses the same APIs and driver model as XP, but still, there are a lot of extra variables.

Any reason why you aren't using the right OS for the job? Namely Windows XP?

Yeah it's because I need IIs installed, and I only have windows xp home and windows 2003 server. I know the best would be windows xp pro but i just don't have it.
