Removing trojan.vundo??

I am having the same problem as a user a couple posts down right now, my Norton anit-virus has detected my system is infected with trojan.vundo @ C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkkhg.dll I went through Norton's live update process, downloaded the vundo and monde removal tools, used them as directed, and neither tool found a problem, but my Norton popup just comes back every time I close it. I cannot use internet explorer and my system is running abnormally slow right now. Luckily, I had already downloaded Firefox and have been able to use it after setting it to automatically detect proxy settings. I'm not too computer savvy, but can get around OK with help. Can anyone on here try to walk me through removing this POS trojan? I really need the computer up to par for school. Thanks.

EDIT: Looks like everyone else is including a HiJack This scan, which has been helpful for diagnosis, so here's mine. If it helps, I have also been getting the WinFixer popup like crazy.

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

• Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
• This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
• After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
• Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
• You will first be presented with a warning.

Thanks for the quick response. I attempted to do everything listed and ran into a few problems. After staring in safe mode, I had no desktop, so I used the task manager to open the vundofix. I went through the process listed, took a log and selected all of the listed items to be fixed, with the exception of O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkkhg.dll, which was not listed. Fixed the rest and then rebooted. I just tried to do the online ActiveScan, but my IE is still not working and the message said the scan was only for that browser, not Firefox. Nothing obvious in your log now.

Try the following and let's see if we can get IE working again.

1) find the ie.inf file located in Windows\Inf folder.
2) Right click the ie.inf file and click Install on the context menu.
3) Reboot the computer when the file copy process is complete.

Try IE again.

Well, norton hasn't popped up with its message since and no popups, so thanks so far. IE is still not working and another issue I've had since that trojan is instead of having pages scroll smoothly, the pages "reload" each scroll of the mouse like the screen is refreshing kind of? Sorry for the poor discription. Its like watching a slide show slide by slide instead of having the page gradually scroll down. I can't get the IE.inf to install without an XP disc with service pack 2 it says and Dell doesn't give those with new systems now, so I can't get it to work. Any ideas??

Try running IEFIX.htm which will repair IE and run a System File Check.

Ran IEFIX and still nothing. The program still asked for the XP cd, but continued to do its thing after I cancelled since I don't have it. IE is still not working and the scrolling is still doing the "snapshot" at a time thing.

Not too sure what else you can try without having the CD handy. How about doing a system restore back to a time before this all started?

Try moving your hijackthis folder to the C:\Program Files folder. Make sure the folder name is hijackthis without spaces (don't know if that will help).
Run the VundoFix again.

Close IE and go to Start > Run and run the following commands one after the other, each line followed by 'enter':

regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 comcat.dll
regsvr32 actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 Msjava.dll
regsvr32 Browseui.dll

Run each line individually. After each run, you should see a short message stating the command was successful. Reboot.
