Another Trojan.Vundo infection.

Hello:

I am having the same problem as several other user's who have postings. My Norton anit-virus has detected my system is infected with trojan.vundo @ C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkklm.dll I went through Norton's live update process, downloaded the fixvundo removal tool, used as directed. It didn't detect Vundo. When I run a full system scan, norton finds it, says it is removed but the Norton popup just comes back every time I restart. When I look at Norton's activity log/security risks, the auto-detect is logging 12 times per minute my computer is on. I am using the Opera browser, but my system is running abnormally slow right now. I log-in to work through GotomyPC, but every click is painfully slow.

I did do a live update for Ad-aware and spy-bot. I ran both of these before running Hijackthis.

Can anyone please help me remove this trojan? I really need the computer up to par for work and play. Thank you in advance.

I am including the scan log from Hijackthis below.

    First of all we have to remove Newdotnet, either from add/remove programs, or by going here and scrolling down to the uninstall tool.

    ==

    Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

    Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
    • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
    • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
    • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
    • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
    • You will first be presented with a warning.
      It should look like this
      VundoFix V2.15 by Atri
      By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
      Press enter to continue....
    • At this point press enter one time.
    • Next you will see:
      Please Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
      and then press enter:
    • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):

        C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkklm.dll

      [*]Press Enter to continue with the fix.
      [*] Next you will see:
      Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum
      staff then press enter:
      [*]At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):

        C:\WINDOWS\system32\mlkkj.*

        [*]Press Enter to continue with the fix.
        [*]The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
        [*]In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

          O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {6DD0BC06-4719-4BA3-BEBC-FBAE6A448152} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkklm.dll

          O20 - Winlogon Notify: jkklm - C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkklm.dll

          [*]After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis.
          [*]Press enter to exit the program then manually reboot your computer.
          [*]Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.

          Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

          Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

          I ran everything as suggested: The Vundo message is not on my computer right now, but I see in the Hijackthis log, that the two items that I was told to fixcheck are both back. Originally the only item that appeared was 020-Winlogon Notify: jkklm, the other item did not appear in the Hijackthis scan, so I couldn't delete it. Should I do the process again?

          I just reviewed Hijackthis log. The two items that should have been gone are now both back. When ran Hijackthis the 02-BHO: MSEvents Object was not there to fix. I see it is back again.

          Can you please do the following.

          Go in to your Control Panel and double click on the Sun Java icon. Locate the cache and clear it out.

          ===============

          Open a command prompt by going to the start menu and then select 'Run'.

          In the box that pops up type in 'cmd'. The command prompt will open.

          OR

          You can go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt. Unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:

          regsvr32 /u sfcont.dll

          It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to the command prompt to save typing them in.

          ===============

          Run HiJackThis, click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

          Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

          ===============

          Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure you are able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

          folders...

          C:\PROGRAM FILES\Need2Find
          C:\PROGRAM FILES\VVSN

          -

          Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in "Safe Mode".

          -

          Reboot.

          ===============

          After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.

          Here is an UPDATE from Learnbydoing:

          I did everything as indicated. I did receive an error message when running Hijackthis. I forwarded that to merijn.

          After running the above, things were better. I did get another trojan. "Trojan.LowZones" I was able to take care of that myself. I did call Dell support. The support there had me reload my original factory settings. Things improved dramatically with my shutdown and restart. I am still having problems with a process called Logging and Tracing Manager. I have been unable to find out what product this is. Dell assured me this was not a windows product. Each time I restart I get an error message that the Logging and Tracing Manager has encounterd a problem. Any ideas on this issue would be most helpful. Thank you for all the help with the Trojan's. I am definately learning by doing!!!

          Here is my Hijackthis log:

          Can you give me a little more info on the logging and tracing process? Does it show up in services? If so, what is the file name associated with it?

          Hello Crunchie, Thank you for your response and help. I have looked at the data included in the error report. I was able to determine the culprit program. It is the Musicmatch Jukebox program installed on my computer at the time of purchase. I have made contact with the technical support for this program. Hopefully they will be able to help me. Thank you again for the support. I have learned quite a lot through this process!!

          Learn by doing.
