    Can you please do the following.

    ===============

    We'll need to unload Spybot's Teatimer before we begin. To do this can you start Spybot and go to Tools > Resident and uncheck the box next to Tea-Timer. Make sure that the icon in the system tray is no longer there. If it is, just right click on it and select "Exit". Do not forget to re-enable it when we are done :).

    ===============

    Go to Add/Remove programs and remove(uninstall) the following, if present:

    AdwareAlert

    The above could appear anywhere within the entry. Be careful not to remove any personal or system software.

    ===============

    Now, let's open a command prompt by going to the start menu and then select 'Run'.

    In the box that pops up type in 'cmd'. The command prompt will open.

    OR

    You can go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt. Unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:

    regsvr32 /u XRSS.DLL

    It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to the command prompt to save typing them in.

    ===============

    Run HiJackThis, click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...rch/search.html

    R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {6EAC1551-951F-29E0-8753-60550DA82F40} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\TOLSCEQ.DLL (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {AC39CFBB-5408-7FF1-7D21-7DC2BE564091} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\XRSS.DLL
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {A36CCBEA-0D57-2CAB-7D21-7DC2BE564090} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\XRSS.DLL

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AdwareAlert] C:\PROGRAM FILES\ADWAREALERT\ADWAREALERT.Exe -boot
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Windows DLL Services Configuration] windir32.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Lgg] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\inewpay.exe

    Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

    ===============

    Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure you are able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

    folders...

    C:\PROGRAM FILES\ADWAREALERT

    files...

    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\XRSS.DLL
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\inewpay.exe

    Search for...

    windir32.exe

    ...using "Start | Search...".

    -

    Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in "Safe Mode".

    -

    Reboot.

    ===============

    After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.

    Thank you very much! My computer is still so slow & freezes quite often. Here is my new log file. Also, I found the program 'mc-110-12-0000080.exe' in my C drive, just sitting there with everything else. There was nothing like that in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Windows. I put this in my recycle bin but did not delete it just in case yet :)

    Is it me or do I seem to have an awful lot of things running for such an older computer?

    Not too much running there :). Nothing else bad either that I can see. You may benefit from running a registry cleaner. EasyCleaner does a pretty good job.
    If it has been a while since your last reformat, it may be time to start thinking about it again.
  • edited October 2005
    Hi & thanks. I messed up, ran easy cleaner and deleted what apparently were very important files because my computer will not do anything even with the start up disc or the original disks that came with it. I take 100% responsibility. I ran the duplicate file checker and deleted everything. boy, i cant believe i did that! all i get when i boot it from the 'a' drive is this

    A\: or it might be this A:\

    i dont even mind if i have to reformat but i cant even do that? please help!
