dvdrw 1008 will only read dvd, not audio cd or data, help

my dvdrw 1008 will not read any data discs or audio discs, only dvd's. this is weird i tried unistalling the driver and reinstalling it and then i tried new firmware and it doesn't seem to make a difference. if you can help.
