The Register reports that Intel will ship its new Pentium 4 CPU equipped with Virtualisation Technology on November 13th 2005.

The P4 662 and 672 have been on the cards for a Q4 2005 launch for some time, but now a launch date has emerged, sources from among Taiwan's motherboard makers have claimed. That date is 13 November, the moles say, according to a DigiTimes report.
So far, Intel has only confirmed that the chips will appear as 66-something and 67-something, and that they will arrive some time in the rapidly shrinking second half of 2005.

The new P4s will be followed over a month later by the Celeron D 355, which the sources claim will ship on Christmas Day. CEO Paul Otellini in a fluffy white beard and red costume, anyone? Or maybe Dickensian attire would be more appropriate. Bah, humbug.

What is virtualization technology good for in a desktop environment? I can see the average geek wanting to run his Linux and Windows simultaneously on the same machine but the draw for the average user doesn't seem to be there especially since most Tier1 OEM's prefer to believe Linux doesn't exist.
